Central Coast Aquarium Spring Break Camp
The Central Coast Aquarium will run its Spring Break Camp: Funky Fish from April 6–10, 2026, giving kids a hands-on dive into marine life with science labs, games, crafts, and live aquarium animal encounters every day. It’s educational, memorable, and a lot more active than sitting at home.

Paddle or Drive to Point San Luis Lighthouse
The historic Point San Luis Lighthouse sits at the end of a dramatic headland just west of Avila Beach. Rent a kayak from the harbor and approach from the water alongside sea otters and pelicans, or drive in and join one of the volunteer-led docent tours. Spring wildflowers on the surrounding hillsides make it especially worth the trip this time of year.

Spot Wildlife from the Pier or Go Whale Watching
Spring is prime time for marine wildlife in Avila Beach. Gray whales migrate along the coast through April, and whale watching tours depart right from Port San Luis. For a free option, a walk out on the Avila Beach Pier almost always turns up sea otters, harbor seals, and diving pelicans, endlessly entertaining for kids.
Hike or Bike the Bob Jones Trail
The Bob Jones City to the Sea Trail winds through riparian forest and open meadows before arriving at the beach, and in spring, it’s lined with wildflowers.
