The Holidays Have Arrived
The holidays have officially arrived in Avila Beach, and the coast has never felt more magical!
This season, our little town is aglow with festive happenings, coastal charm, and moments made for slowing down and savoring. Gather your favorite people, breathe in that salty winter air, and celebrate a season filled with warmth, wonder, and a little extra sparkle by the sea.
Santa’s Doggie Parade
Saturday, December 13, 2025
Kick off the holiday season with one of Avila Beach’s most beloved traditions, Santa’s Doggie Parade, hosted by the Avila Beach Civic Association.
Pups and their people are invited to dress in their festive best and stroll the promenade in full holiday cheer. Participants must register and check in between 10:00–10:45 AM to receive a contest number before the parade begins.
This year’s costume contest categories include:
- Best Dog Costume
- Best Dog/Owner Look-Alike
- Best Holiday Look
- Funniest Costume
- Best in Show
Check in at the registration table on the promenade at the base of the pier. A $5 donation is requested, and all parade participants will receive a special goodie bag courtesy of Petco Arroyo Grande.

Holiday Events at Avila Valley Barn
The holidays are extra merry at Avila Valley Barn, and the season kicked off with the arrival of fresh Christmas trees on November 25. Wander through the twinkling tree lot, breathe in that evergreen goodness, and soak up the cozy coastal charm that makes Avila Valley Barn a holiday must.
Plus, keep an eye out for special visits from Santa and Buddy the Elf throughout the season! Snap a festive photo, pick out your perfect tree, and enjoy a little extra magic during your stop.

Take the Polar Bear Plunge
Start the New Year with a splash… literally. The Avila Beach Polar Bear Plunge returns on January 1, inviting brave locals and visitors to kick off 2026 with a chilly dip in the Pacific.
Ready to be bold and get cold? Gather your crew, pull together your best costumes or festive floaties, and meet on the east side of the Avila Beach Pier at noon. (Please note: dogs are not permitted.)
This beloved annual tradition is free, open to everyone, and requires no tickets or reservations, just a sense of adventure.
After the Polar Bear Plunge, warm up with a soak in the mineral hot tubs at Sycamore Mineral Springs, enjoy a relaxing wine tasting, or refuel with a delicious meal at a local eatery.
