U-Pick Orchards & Local Favorites
SLO Creek Farms — U-Pick Organic Apples
Season: Open Thursday–Monday, 11 AM–5 PM
Start a family tradition at SLO Creek Farms, nestled in the rolling hills just outside Avila Beach. Visitors are invited to wander through 14 acres of certified organic apple trees, tasting as they go and hand-picking the perfect fruit straight from the tree. It’s free to pick, just purchase the apples you decide to take home.
SLO Creek grows a wide range of organic varieties, including Jonalicious, Empire, Early Fuji, Gala, September Wonder, Sundancer, Granny Smith, and Braeburn. All are grown chemical-free, so you can enjoy them right off the branch. The farm provides baskets for picking and a free picnic area for relaxing after your harvest.

- Park in the customer lot and stay within designated picking areas.

Tucked into the heart of See Canyon, this historic ranch is known for its rustic charm and generations of apple-growing tradition. Depending on the time of your visit, you’ll find a rotating selection of Golden Delicious, Red Gold, Fuji, Red Delicious, Pippin, Gala, and more.
See Canyon Fruit Ranch is beloved not only for its apples, but for its house-made specialties:

Gopher Glen Apple Farm
Season: August through late November | Open daily until 6 PM
For over forty years, Gopher Glen Apple Farm has been a cornerstone of the See Canyon community. What began as a quaint roadside stand by Dr. John DeVincenzo—known locally as “Dr. D”, has grown into a beloved destination for apple enthusiasts across the Central Coast.
Dr. D’s passion for apples led him to graft and create his own unique varieties, including the “Heaven Sent” apple, named in honor of his late wife. His legacy continues through the stewardship of Debbie and Bruce Smith, who carry on his vision at both Gopher Glen and the Avila Valley Barn.
Today, Gopher Glen offers more than 65 apple varieties, including classic favorites and rare heirlooms like Rhode Island Greening, Stayman Winesap, Spitzburg (Thomas Jefferson’s favorite!), and Heaven Sent. They even grow experimental trees with multiple grafted varieties, so you might just taste an apple no one else has ever tried before.
Current offerings include Gala, Newtown Pippin, Mutsu, Red Gold, Golden Delicious, Mohawk, Criterian, and Red Yorking—with Fuji, Rome Beauty, Granny Smith, and more coming later in the season. Pear varieties like Warren and Bartlett are also available in limited quantities.
