RACE DAY Sunday, October 18, 2026
FINISH LINE Avila Beach
There’s a reason 13.1 (or 3.1) miles ending at the edge of the Pacific feels different than any other race. Cuesta College’s City to the Sea Half Marathon and Avila-Seaside 5K, presented by Running Warehouse, begins in the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo and follows the scenic Bob Jones Trail all the way to the coast, crossing the finish line at the Avila Beach Resort Festival Grounds, with sea lions, harbor views, and sand underfoot waiting on the other side.
Race weekend runs Saturday, October 17 through Sunday, October 18, and Avila Beach is where the celebration happens. Here’s our insider guide to making the most of it: where to stay, where to fuel up, and where to recover once you’ve crossed the finish line.

Where to Recover & Relax
The Beach
Avila Beach is the destination the whole course points toward. Soft sand, calm and sheltered water, and an easy walk from the finish line festival make it the simplest recovery spot on the Central Coast, kick off your shoes and let the cold water do the work.
The Hot Springs
Avila’s not-so-secret recovery weapon sits right along the race route.
- Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort & Spa — Home to private, open-air hillside mineral hot tubs terraced into an oak forest, plus a full spa, the Oasis Waterfall Lagoon, and the on-site Gardens of Avila Restaurant. The resort sits directly along the Bob Jones Trail, the same path runners follow into town — a soak here is the perfect way to spend Sunday afternoon.
- Avila Hot Springs — A short drive from downtown Avila, with a large mineral pool, waterslides, and a more casual, family-friendly soak.
More Ways to Unwind
- Bob Jones Trail — Rent a bike on Monday for an easy, flat ride along the same scenic path from the race — a great way to loosen up sore legs.
- Avila Beach Golf Resort — A relaxed option for the non-runners in your group, right along the finish-line side of town.
- Avila Valley Barn — A sweet detour for cider, fresh produce, and farm animals if you’re extending the weekend with family.
- Local wine tasting — Several walkable, downtown tasting rooms make an easy, unhurried way to close out the weekend.
